Last week, Paco and I went to Ft. Yargo State Park in Winder and walked around the lake. The full loop is eight miles, but we usually bypass the useless meanders and do it in seven.
Normally, Paco runs off-leash until we meet other people or dogs. But there is one spot that requires me to hook him up every time: a picnic area and playground popular with moms and kids.
When we arrived there, numerous munchkins were present, all of whom perked up when they saw Paco.
Closest to us was a group of six little boys and their mothers. All six kids were about three years old, same size, strikingly similar in appearance. Turned out to be a set of triplets, plus a set of twins, plus one other kid.
Immediately, they surrounded Paco, three on each side. He willingly presented himself to be petted, and the boys stood as close as they could get, stroking and petting and cooing.
“He’s soft.”
“He’s beautiful, Mommie.”
“I wuv him.”
The adoration continued. One of the moms grabbed her camera and took a photo. I wanted to get one with my cell phone, but couldn’t figure out how, since I was in the middle of the pack.
Eventually, I said we had to go, which caused two of the little boys to begin crying. A couple of moms tried and failed to stop the tears, so Paco and I quickly departed to get it over with.
30 yards down the path, I looked back. All six boys were waving at us. The same two were still crying.
