CAPE MAY, NEW JERSEY — Three inmates and two family members have been charged with attempting to smuggle drugs into a New Jersey jail on the pages of a coloring book.
Police said subozone, a drug used to treat heroin addiction, but itself classified as a controlled substance, was dissolved into a paste and then painted onto the coloring book.
Pages with “To Daddy” scribbled across the top were sent to the prisoners.
Acting on an anonymous tip, police arrested the mother of one inmate. The wife of another is being sought.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA — In January, a California woman pleaded no contest to felony charges of forging drug prescriptions and writing fraudulent checks. She was released on $45,000 bond, pending sentencing.
When the woman arrived in court for sentencing, she presented the judge a note from her doctor asking for a postponement.
The county prosecutor called the doctor, who stated that he did not write the note. The judge angrily ordered the woman taken into custody,
The woman collapsed to the floor and was taken by ambulance to a hospital — which postponed the sentencing.
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — A Taco Bell drive-through customer has been charged with attempted capital murder over the price of Beefy Crunch Burritos.
Police said the burritos had been sold for 99 cents as a promotion, but the promotion period ended. When the customer was told the price had gone up to $1.49, he became enraged and fired a BB gun through the window at the manager.
As employees and customers hit the floor, the manager called police. When officers arrived, the angry customer produced a pistol and an assault rifle and fired several shots at the officers.
He then retreated to a nearby motel and barricaded himself in a room, sparking a standoff that lasted until police lobbed tear gas inside and the man surrendered.
