COPPERAS COVE, TEXAS — A Texas man was arrested and taken into custody last month for failing to return an overdue library book.
Police arrested 22-year-old Jory Enck after they responded to an unrelated disturbance call at Enck’s apartment. During the investigation, they found an outstanding warrant on Enck, who had checked out a GED study guide in 2010 and never returned it.
Enck told police he couldn’t return the book because he was serving a three-year prison sentence.
Upon returning the library book, Enck was released on $200 bond. He said he will never set foot in a library again.
SPOKANE, WASHINGTON — In January, a Spokane woman’s vehicle was rear-ended by a car driven by a Chihuahua.
Tabitha Ormaechea said the car came out of nowhere, bumping her vehicle from behind. “When I looked up, there was no one in the car — just a little dog up on the steering wheel, peeking over, looking at me,” she said.
The dog had been left alone in the car and apparently knocked the gear shift into neutral, allowing the car to roll forward into traffic. Damage was minimal.
According to the owner of the car, he has revoked the dog’s driver’s license.
DALLAS, TEXAS — The herringbone wool suit worn by Gene Kelly as he famously danced in a downpour in the 1952 film “Singin’ in the Rain” has been sold at auction for $106,000.
The buyer, Planet Hollywood, will display the suit at one of its restaurants.
The gray suit languished unnoticed in the MGM Studios props department until 1970, when a memorabilia collector bought it at a sale of studio wardrobe items for $10.
The suit was scheduled to be sold last December, but ironically, the auction was cancelled due to a storm.
