1. Jones said he was inspired by the description of a coyote in Roughing It by Mark Twain. The coyote, Twain wrote, is “a long, slim, sick and sorry-looking skeleton” and “a living, breathing allegory of Want. He is always hungry.”
2. The ancient Greek gods of the north, south, east, and west winds, respectively.
3. The community was “Pig’s Eye,” named for Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant, who ran a tavern there.
4. It was Gary Swanson in 1982 in Vice Squad. He sneered, “Go ahead, scumbag, make my day.”
5. A cat. It beat out a toy robot, a helicopter, a diamond ring, and a guitar.
