ATHENS, GEORGIA — A man at a local bar called the Athens-Clarke County Police Department last month claiming to be “Sheriff Longmire” requesting backup on a murder case. The caller also asked to speak to “Officer Ferguson.”
The responding officers, who recognized the names as characters from a TV program, said the man claimed another bar patron had shot someone. The officers determined that the caller, a University of Georgia student, was under the influence of alcohol.
The student was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer, unlawful conduct during a 911 call, and underage consumption of alcohol.
The student later issued an apology to ACCPD through his attorney. The felony impersonation charge was dropped, but the student still faces two misdemeanors.
CAMBRIA TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA — Police say a man from nearby Duncansville arrived at the Cambria County Jail last month and said he wanted to surrender on outstanding arrest warrants. After checking the records, the duty officer told 40-year-old Mervin Sollenberger that no such warrants existed.
Sollenberger became enraged and threatened to assault the guards. He went on a brief rampage, kicking in the wire of a holding cell, before he was subdued.
He was charged with disorderly conduct and making terroristic threats. Unable to post 10 percent of his $20,000 bail, he remained in jail pending disposition of his case.
QUANG NGAI, VIETNAM — During a long bus ride in rural Vietnam, some of the passengers asked the driver to pull over so they could relieve themselves. The driver obliged, and all the passengers disembarked.
One of the men spotted a beehive at the edge of the road, and he convinced several other males, apparently as a joke, to urinate on the beehive simultaneously.
Instantly, the enraged bees emerged from the hive and retaliated. At least one of the male perpetrators was stung on his private parts. In all, 21 passengers were stung, and three required hospitalization.
